Spoken in the Mutant Family Household, Hospital Edition

You'll note the first IV try bandage on left hand.

Gage: “See this bite? It hurts a lot. Like before when it got really gross and really cool.”

———–

Gage: “I don’t want the IV right there because of that one time when it didn’t feel right.”

Me: “You mean 3 years ago? But that was just that once, something happened to the IV, but you took it out anyway.”

Gage: “And I will do it again, I am not kidding.”

———–

Gage: “I don’t know why I am not tired. It’s like, it’s like I have no tired part in my brain.”

Me: “And for me, it’s like I have no awake part in my brain. We’re like opposites!”

Gage: “Eh, yeah.  Except I am tired sometimes.”

———–

Me, explaining Gage’s medical history.

Me: “Well, then he had surgery and he was awake, so he has PSTD from it, obviously.”

Gage: “That was not good. At all. You wouldn’t like that. Would you want to be awake? I heard them and everything.”

———–

Gage: “I’ve been here so many times I know the place.”

———–

Gage: “Hey! Sally needs a blanket too! She needs one of those little tiny ones like you have here.”

———–

Me: “You’ve been doing really good studying. Very responsible about school and we’re so proud of you!”

Gage: “Ha, yeah. I kinda don’t know who I am.”

Later

Gage: “I can’t believe I’m sad about missing school.”

———–

Gage: “Can you get me a snack so when I get up in the middle of the night I can eat something?”

Me: “You don’t ever wake up in the middle of the night.”

Gage: “I will here.”

Ugh.. sorry to hear you had to spend time in the ER. I hope it’s not serious and that he feels better soon so that he doesn’t have to miss more school.

  2. J. says:

Hang in there, hope he is out soon.

  3. dawn says:

I’m sorry Gage is back in the hospital and here’s hoping he’s wrong about it being like last time. But I was struck (and tearful) at this post because my god, LOOK AT HIM! Missing school, advocating for himself (strongly), confident in his rights and in his experience. Damn, Julia, you have done good and he has done good. He blows me away every time in these posts.

  4. MFA Mama says:

“…and I will do it again. I’m not kidding.” HAAAAA! He sounds exactly like my husband with the donor bits. So either my husband is immature, Gage has become a man, or some combination of the two :)

  5. Just Me Jen says:

I’m not sure I’m supposed to be grinning ear to ear when the poor kid is in the hospital, but he’s happy! He’s expressing himself! He’s joking! He’s talking about the PTSD! He’s joking! He likes school!

    I told you so.:)

  6. Nancy says:

    We have so been there!

  7. Michal says:

I love Jen’s comments. Praying that some rapid improvement is hot on Gage’s heels!

  8. Thanks a lot!

Luckily it was caught quickly and treated aggressively!
