Life after transplant.

Taking blood from her

she is unimpressed

Always, forever

The love-hate affair

with the needle

which offers pain

but comfort of mind

to watch one kidney

carrying her into highschool

maybe college

too much to hope for longer

Kidney function

Always needles

Forever

Your posts give me such comfort. We just had a horror experience with a blood draw (the pre-transplant bloodwork, so tubes and tubes and tubes and tubes). My 3-year-old had no voice or tears left a the end. I hope one day she is unimpressed too.

    • Melissa, does it help or hurt for me to say one day your 3 yo will be used to it. It’s both a good thing and bad thing because we realize how often they have to go for it to be considered “normal.”

      Gage was diagnosed at 3…

It helps, though of course this is not the life I would have picked for her. She never had normal kidney function. Her kidneys were affected by blood loss at birth when her id twin sister died, and docs didn’t think she would be able to grow enough to get dialysis or transplant. We’ve been monitoring function ever since, and now it’s time.

I’m glad she is unimpressed, and can’t wait for the day she tells a newbie which arm & to feel the vein. :)
