Around about.

So I was gone for a week and it feels like a month because I am getting caught up on work but then there is more work and I am slow to get back to the routine.

TRAVEL I was traveling with my friend Anissa, who is in a wheelchair, and it is always great to hang out with her and it’s always extremely eye-opening. She is one of the funniest people I know and is a rock star among the social media crowd, so traveling with her is much like being a roadie on a really good gig where you get to live someone else’s life for a moment.

I am working on a blog post about traveling with someone who is in a wheelchair. And about how much it hurts me when people out in the regular world don’t even look at her or address her when they are asking a question ABOUT HER. It’s understandably upsetting to her, yet she often lets it roll off her back in lieu of grabbing the joy she can by traveling and meeting people and living.

She almost died, y’all. That is when I “met” Anissa. I never thought I’d have the chance to get to know her, to call her my friend. I never thought I’d be able to help her but I have. And she’s helped me. She called me funny. She let me write at Aiming Low, where very few words about special needs are typed by me. She gave me some great advice. Anyway, at the risk of making her sound inspirational, which she hates, I’m going to stop now.

SHOP I got an email among the 150+ per day asking me to share something with my readers. It was a coupon code for an online consignment store and it was a $20 credit and so I clicked on the store and saw some Justice clothes in Quinnlin’s size and decided to try it. It’s called Thredup.com. Basically you can buy gently used or new clothes (only certain brands accepted), with free shipping (I have no idea if that is always the case), that you select pretty easy on their site. I got one shirt for Gage and a few pieces for Quinnlin. I have to say, it was really easy. I got the box of clothes and they were clean and shipped well. They sent me an email that when they were packing my order they noticed that a piece of clothing I ordered for one of them wasn’t for the right gender, so they credited my account.

You can also order a bag to load up your own consignment kids clothes and it’s a prepaid big envelope you ship back. Again, certain brands only but it’s all laid out on their site. I liked using it. I’m going to do it again. So, the disclosure is that they gave me a $20 credit and I used it. And I liked it, so I am telling you, because it’s the nice thing to do! But let me get over there and see if there are anymore Justice clothes in girls size 12 before you go over there and get them!

PEOPLE I have a good friend visiting for the next week and we’re so excited to be hosting him! He’s Canadian and a huge fan of the Braves. So he’s attending 5 games I think, so we know he’ll be doing that and he’ll also be here for July 4th, which is really fun because we’re fun people, you guys. If you ever want to visit let me know! You can also sleep on the floor air mattress and drive a 20+ year old car as our way of hosting. You do have to put up with the dogs and kids and our crazy schedule and probably breakfast for dinner, but you’ll have fun doing it.

BLOGGING I have about 5 posts written in my head. Unfortunately that doesn’t translate to the actual blog very well, but I’m so close to getting that to happen. Been doing a lot of thinking about the direction I’m going to take with my blogs, speaking, writing, etc. It involves some focus on a particular area for me so I’m excited about it. Stay tuned!

BLOGHER ’12 So thrilled to be speaking again at BlogHer this year. I’ll be moderating a panel during their HealthMinder day on Thursday about caregiving (and taking care of yourself). Excited to be on the panel with Susan Senator and Laura Shumaker and look forward to seeing you all! Thanks to BlogHer and especially Elisa Camahort (@ElisaC) for supporting a day to focus on special needs. Be sure to thank her for me! Also? They just announced Martha Stewart as a keynoter.
